Frequently Asked Questions
My trade is similar to one of the 18 but has a different name. Am I eligible?
Eligibility depends on the nature of work, not just the name. If your work matches one of the 18 listed trades (e.g., you do woodworking but call yourself a 'furniture maker' instead of 'carpenter'), you may still be eligible. The verifier at the time of skill verification will determine if your trade matches.
Are there any trades being added to the list?
News reports suggest PM Vishwakarma 2.0 may expand to 25 trades, but this is NOT officially confirmed as of September 14, 2026. Check pmvishwakarma.gov.in for official updates. Do not rely on unconfirmed reports.
I am a mechanic. Am I eligible?
Mechanic work is not specifically listed in the 18 trades. However, if your work involves traditional tool making or repair (like Hammer and Tool Kit Maker or Locksmith), you may qualify. Check with your nearest CSC for clarification.
Can I apply for multiple trades?
No. You can only register for one trade. The scheme is designed to support your primary family-based traditional trade. Choose the trade that best describes your primary occupation.
