8th CPC Basic Pay Calculator

The 8th CPC basic pay calculator computes your new basic pay under the 8th Pay Commission by multiplying your current 7th CPC basic pay by the fitment factor. Basic pay is the foundation of your salary — all allowances (DA, HRA, TA) and deductions (NPS, CGHS) are calculated as a percentage of basic pay.

How basic pay is calculated

New Basic Pay = Current 7th CPC Basic Pay x Fitment Factor

The fitment factor is the multiplier that the 8th CPC committee recommends. Based on current estimates:

Why basic pay matters

Basic pay is the most important number in your salary structure because:

  1. DA is calculated as a percentage of basic pay (currently 60%)
  2. HRA is calculated as a percentage of basic pay (24%/16%/8%)
  3. NPS deduction is 10% of basic pay
  4. CGHS/CGEIS contributions are linked to basic pay
  5. Pension is calculated as 50% of basic pay (for those under NPS)

A higher basic pay means all your allowances and deductions also increase proportionally.

DA absorption into basic pay

When the 8th CPC is implemented, the current DA (60% as of January 2026) is absorbed into the new basic pay. This is why the fitment factor (1.92x) is lower than the 7th CPC fitment factor (2.57x) — the DA is already included in the new basic.

After implementation, DA resets to 0% and starts accumulating again. Within 3-5 years, DA will reach 30-40% again, significantly increasing your total pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is 8th CPC basic pay calculated?

New Basic Pay = Current 7th CPC Basic Pay x Fitment Factor. The fitment factor is expected to be 1.83x-2.86x, with 1.92x as the consensus estimate. For example, if your current basic is Rs 35,400 and the fitment is 1.92x, your new basic is Rs 67,968.

What happens to DA when basic pay increases?

When the 8th CPC is implemented, the current DA (60%) is absorbed into the new basic pay and resets to 0%. DA then starts accumulating again from zero. Within 3-5 years, DA will reach 30-40% on the higher new basic pay.

Why is the 8th CPC fitment factor lower than 7th CPC?

The 7th CPC used 2.57x because DA was lower at the time. The 8th CPC is expected to use 1.92x because DA is already at 60%, which is absorbed into the new basic pay. The effective increase is similar.
