8th CPC Pay Matrix
The 8th CPC pay matrix is the revised pay structure for central government employees under the 8th Pay Commission. The pay matrix consists of 18 pay levels, each with multiple cells (increment stages). The 8th CPC multiplies the 7th CPC pay matrix by the fitment factor to create the new pay matrix.

How the pay matrix works
Each pay level has multiple cells representing annual increments. For example, Level 6 starts at Rs 35,400 and increases each year until it reaches the next level's starting pay. The 8th CPC will revise each cell by multiplying it by the fitment factor.

Annual increments
Within each pay level, you receive an annual increment (typically 3% of basic pay). The 8th CPC is expected to continue this practice. Your basic pay moves up one cell in the pay matrix each year until you reach the top of your level or get promoted.
Promotion and pay fixation
When you are promoted to a higher pay level, your basic pay is fixed at the cell in the new level that is closest to (but not less than) your current basic pay plus two increments. The 8th CPC may revise this pay fixation formula.
Defence pay matrix
Defence personnel have a separate pay matrix with different levels. The 8th CPC is expected to revise the defence pay matrix as well, including Military Service Pay (MSP).
