8th CPC for Armed Forces — Army, Navy & Air Force Pay Explained
Armed forces personnel — Army, Navy and Air Force — are covered by the Pay Commission but through a separate Military Pay Matrix, not the civilian matrix. In the 7th CPC, military pay ran parallel to civilian levels plus Military Service Pay (MSP): ₹15,500/month for officers and ₹5,200 for JCOs and jawans, compensating for service conditions civilians do not face.
Under the 8th CPC the same structure is expected: a revised military matrix built from the fitment factor plus a revised MSP. At 1.92x, a Sepoy at Level 3 (₹21,700) projects to ₹41,700 basic + MSP; a Colonel at Level 13 (₹1,30,600) to ~₹2,50,700. Defence civilians (MES, ordnance depots, DRDO non-scientist staff) use the civilian matrix instead.
